It is stated that “On April 20, 2009, Oracle announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Sun Microsystems (Sun). The proposed transaction is subject to Sun stockholder approval, certain regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Until the deal closes, each company will continue to operate independently, and it is business as usual.”

According to Oracle, it is going to engineer and deliver an integrated system (applications to disk) where all the pieces fit and work together so customers do not have to do it themselves and it will give more easyness to customers.

The $7.1 billion deal, which Oracle reached after the collapse of Sun’s talks with International Business Machines Corp (IBM.N), will make it the No. 2 player in the $17 billion market for high-end Unix computers used in corporate data centers. That puts Oracle behind IBM and ahead of Hewlett Packard Co (HPQ.N).

Java has deep roots in the server space where both IBM and Oracle use it extensively in their middleware and applications to ensure portability across OS. By acquiring Sun, Oracle will be able to lead the Java community process that develops Java standards. It also gains closer access to the thousands of Java programmers who pack Sun’s annual JavaOne conference.
